Before I can suggest,
I need to experience

Adichie (2017) emphasized how easy it is for us to fall into the same narrative of judging people according to what we see, hear, read, assume of them--their “single stories.” If we rely on these assumptions in creating instructions, we are making a costly mistake that might impede learning

Before I can move forward,
I need to take a step back

Teaching is a never-ending cycle. We learn, we teach, we learn, we teach. It is this beautiful cycle that earns us endless opportunities to reach out to unreached places

Before I can be an influencer, I need to be a follower

The pursuit of knowledge always begin with an inquiry. Throughout my academic journey, I could not attest more to the importance of two factors in pursuing knowledge: research and sociocultural immersion

Before I can assess,
I need to comprehend

An important aspect of assessment is metacognition--thinking about thinking or personally reflecting on what you know (Baker, 2009). Learners should be able to reflect on their own during and after the instruction to have a deeper appreciation of what they just learned. As an educator, I also do the same. This reflection is most summarized by my inclination to apply Kirkpatrick’s (2006) Four Levels of Evaluation.

As a self-professed lover of knowledge, I have found myself entangled in different teaching intersections. Raised in both the Philippines and Taiwan, my background as an educator started out as an interest to help ESL learners attain their best possible outlet into global learning. Throughout years of teaching in different places and culture, my interest grew immensely into a passion to understand the psychology of the learners and focus on their individual needs.

My passion-driven practice has then led me to opportunities to create instructions for students from diverse backgrounds and age groups in the last ten years. From informal to formal settings, I have collaborated with different educators and families to create a holistic approach to personalized education. I aim to continually harness my skills as an educator and design inclusive instructions that welcomes students from different capacities. Through integrating my previous practice in advertising and marketing, I plan to further the expanse of research-based educational opportunities for learners.
